It turns out that Being comes first, then Doing, and yet both are required to have a successful healing practice, or even a happy and successful life.
In the realm of Doing, the two most important things are constant practice, and taking inspired actions to grow your business (or volunteer service). Research tells us that it takes most people about 10 years to become a true master at anything, but before you sigh and decide that’s too long, consider all of your experiences.
How long have you been working on yourself, taking a path of discovery and learning related to the healing arts and deep self-inquiry? How long have you been practicing doing something you love and feel born to do, in the service of others? You may be further along that path than you think!
Mastery is nothing more than deciding something is important to you, and taking the time to practice it, and invest in the continuing education you need to get better and better at what you care about doing.
This means doing a daily practice, such as meditation, breathing or sound exercises. It means going to classes, retreats, studying with those who are already masters, and celebrating all that you’ve done so far. It means you’re willing to put yourself at the top of the priority list for a change, so that you’ll be in the best possible position to care for others and to bring them at least as far as you have come.
Now for the inspired action part. Inspired action is doing something because it springs from who you really are and what matters most to you. It’s taking action based on your heart’s desire. An example might be something like writing this newsletter.
I have an inspiration to share what has worked for me to have a successful healing practice, because I know many of you want that for yourselves, not just because it would be nice to make a living doing what you love, but because you can’t NOT do this service for humanity, and to have a real impact, you need to touch more than one life per month!
An inspired action can be as simple as making a phone call and speaking from the heart to a potential client, because you thought of her, and your heart softened. Maybe she’ll want an appointment, and maybe not right now; the point is that you followed your inspiration, and had a healing conversation with someone, no matter the outcome for your business.
Here’s another thing I was inspired to do – to invite you to my next retreat on the shores of Lake Superior, March 9th-11th, 2012. This is not just “business.” It’s what I love to do, and it’s a way that I continue to learn myself, as well as share knowledge and experience with people who want to experience more sound healing, whether for themselves or as holistic practitioners.
It’s called Mastery of Self & Sound, and it’s a deep dive, bringing together all that you’ve learned so far. We’ll practice the art and science of Sound Healing hands on with your fellow participants. This retreat is highly experiential; expect a transformational and healing experience as you step into greater mastery of yourself and of sound healing.
You will learn how to conduct a complete Sound Healing session with a friend or client, from intake to asking from the heart for your client to book their next appointment. We’ll cover the ethics of vibrational therapy in more depth, and how to create and maintain good energetic boundaries so that you can keep your energy strong and clear while you help others.
We’ll experience the use of music as medicine, in a very special 2012 Ascension Sound Journey with musical guest Michael Wachner & myself.

As for the Being, that’s the foundation – the energy from which we all take action. If my state of being is peaceful, capable and heart-centered, then that energy is a part of every action I take. What is the energy I’m “wearing” or radiating? If I walk into a room upset, or happy, they are both contagious, and will definitely affect the quality and direction of my actions.
Why does this matter in having a successful healing practice – or even a happy life? Because when I take the time to be aware of my state of Being, and choose to radiate a higher vibration, people feel that. They know if I’m being sincere, present or loving. They also know if I’ve fallen into fear or something else.
I need to BE the same person I am when I tell you about my next beautiful retreat or class as I am when I am teaching or doing a healing session with a client, or volunteering with love to the dying.
Whatever we do or create from a calm, open hearted state of being, is carrying that same energy pattern or frequency out into the world. What we ARE matters more than what we DO, and it’s the way to a successful practice, and more importantly, to a more peaceful , joyful world.
Please look into my next sound healing training & retreat; I’m looking forward to BEING with you…
